Demo walkthrough

Try every feature of SML Check-in with made-up members. Nothing here is real TidyHQ data.

How to use this page

Tap a Start button. It signs out whoever is signed in, opens the page the scenario is about, and shows the sign-in list. Tap the member named on the button, then follow the steps.

Tip: to watch the admin attendee list update (scenario 7), use two windows: one browser for the admin, and a second browser or a private window for the members checking in. One browser holds one signed-in person at a time.

Look: the account menu (the chip at the top right, or Menu when signed out) has a Theme switch: System, Light or Dark. Marcus Bell's account shows a profile photo; the others show initials.

Everyone shares one demo

A scenario someone already ran looks different. For example, Dante may already be checked in. Each scenario says what you will see then.

To start over, ask the person running the demo to press Restart on the web app in the Azure portal. That resets every check-in and point. So does a new deploy, and so does the demo waking up after an idle sleep on the free tier, which can happen without anyone pressing anything. The demo's data is built at the first request after a Restart, deploy or sleep, and Social Night is open for check-in for 24 hours from then; after that it says "Check-in has closed" and every scenario that uses Social Night needs another Restart. If your scenario was undone, one of these probably happened.

  1. 1. Member check-in and repeat

    Sign in as Dante Ruiz.

    Steps

    1. You land on Social Night with a big "Check in" button. Before tapping it, open this same page in a second tab: duplicate the tab, or copy the address into a new one.
    2. In the first tab, tap "Check in".
    3. In the second tab, which still shows the old button, tap "Check in" too. The Back button won't do this: it reloads the page, which by then says you're already checked in.

    You should see

    • After the first tap: "You're checked in" with the member's name, +1 point, and the new total (1).
    • After the second tap: "You're already checked in" and "One check-in per event, so no extra point this time." The total stays 1.
    • "See your points" opens the member status page.

If someone already ran this: There is no "Check in" button. You see "You're already checked in" and the member's total. Ask for a Restart to try the first tap again.

  2. 2. Reaching club colors on check-in

    Sign in as Riley Frost.

    Steps

    1. Tap "Check in" on Social Night. Riley starts at 17 points, one short of club colors.
    2. Tap "See your points" to open the status page.

    You should see

    • "You're checked in", +1 point, and a total of 18.
    • The message "You qualify for club colors! A Board member will connect with you to distribute your club colors." is shown because this check-in's point reached 18.
    • The status page shows the same message.

If someone already ran this: You see "You're already checked in" with a total of 18, and no club colors message on that screen. The status page still shows "You qualify for club colors! A Board member will connect with you to distribute your club colors."

  3. 3. Grace period and balance due

    Grace period

    Sign in as Robin Vale.

    Steps

    1. Tap "Check in" on Social Night. The membership ended 20 days ago, within the 60-day grace period, so check-in still works.

    You should see

    • "You're checked in", +1 point and a total of 1.
    • A notice that the membership expired on a date and to renew by a later date, with a "Renew on TidyHQ" link to SML's TidyHQ site. You don't need to follow it.

    Balance due

    Sign in as Avery Quinn.

    Steps

    1. Tap "Check in" on Social Night. The membership is partly paid, with an end date still ahead, so check-in works.

    You should see

    • "You're checked in", +1 point and a total of 1.
    • "You have a balance due. Complete payment in TidyHQ." with a "Pay on TidyHQ" link.

If someone already ran this: For either member you see "You're already checked in" with no notice on that screen. The status page still shows the grace period or balance due notice.

  4. 4. Refused: lapsed and inconsistent record

    Lapsed

    Sign in as Lee Hart.

    Steps

    1. Open Social Night. The membership ended 90 days ago, past the grace period, so there is no "Check in" button.

    You should see

    • "Your membership isn't active" and "Check-in is for current SML members."
    • Two buttons: "Renew on TidyHQ" and "I've renewed, check me in".

    Inconsistent record

    Sign in as Kai Mercer.

    Steps

    1. Open Social Night. The only membership is marked expired but its end date is still ahead, which should not happen in TidyHQ, so the app refuses it.

    You should see

    • The same "Your membership isn't active" screen as Lee. Members aren't told about the data problem; admins see a warning in scenario 9.

If someone already ran this: The same for everyone, since these members never check in.

  5. 5. Refused events: no group and not open yet

    Pop-up Meetup (no attendance group)

    Sign in as Marcus Bell.

    Steps

    1. Open Pop-up Meetup. The event has no group to record attendance in, so check-in is refused whatever time it is.

    You should see

    • "This event isn't open for check-in" and "Check-in isn't available for this event."

    Bootblack Social (not open yet)

    Sign in as Marcus Bell.

    Steps

    1. Open Bootblack Social, about five days after the last Restart.

    You should see

    • "Check-in hasn't opened yet", the time check-in opens, and "Scan the code again then."

If someone already ran this: The same for everyone. Bootblack Social is about five days after a Restart, so once the demo has run that long it opens and shows the "Check in" button.

  6. 6. Messages on the status page

    Renewal reminder

    Sign in as Sam Okafor.

    Steps

    1. The status page opens: the member's name, level, points, membership, rewards and "Recent events".

    You should see

    • "Your membership ends on" a date about two weeks away, with a "Renew on TidyHQ" link.
    • The countdown "18 more points until you qualify for club colors." if the total is still 0.

    Colors issued

    Sign in as Morgan Hale.

    Steps

    1. The status page opens.

    You should see

    • A total of 25 and "Club colors received ✓", with "Active until" the membership's end date.

    You qualify

    Sign in as Taylor Brandt.

    Steps

    1. The status page opens. Taylor has exactly 18 points and no colors issued, so this works even after Riley's check-in is used up.

    You should see

    • A total of 18 and "You qualify for club colors! A Board member will connect with you to distribute your club colors."

If someone already ran this: The same for everyone.

  7. 7. Admin: events, QR code and live attendees

    Sign in as Casey Moreno.

    Steps

    1. The admin page lists the events. Tap Social Night.
    2. Below the event are "Check-in is open.", a "Staff check-in" button, the QR code with its link underneath (it ends /checkin/ev_tonight), and the list of who has checked in.
    3. To watch the list update, keep this page open and run scenario 1 in a second browser or a private window. The page reloads itself every 30 seconds, and Dante Ruiz appears.
    4. Go back to the list and tap Pop-up Meetup.

    You should see

    • In the list, Pop-up Meetup is flagged "No attendance group: check-in won't work for this event."
    • On Social Night's page, "Nobody has checked in yet." until someone does, then a count and the names, sorted.
    • On Pop-up Meetup's page, no QR code: "This event has no attendance group, so check-in can't record anyone and there is no QR code."

If someone already ran this: The list already has everyone who has checked in so far, and the count includes them. If Dante is already listed, the live update has nothing new to show: in the second browser sign in as Marcus Bell, open Social Night and tap "Check in" (no other scenario checks him in there), and Marcus appears within 30 seconds.

  8. 8. Volunteer staff check-in

    Sign in as Pat Rivera.

    Steps

    1. Staff check-in for Social Night opens. Type Jordan in "Find a member" and tap "Search".
    2. Tap Jordan Park. The check-in button is labeled with the name; tap it.
    3. Tap "Next member", search for Lee, and tap Lee Hart.

    You should see

    • For Jordan Park, the name, 1 point and "Can check in."
    • After the tap, "Checked in." and +1 point.
    • For Lee Hart: "Can't check in here. Please see a Board member." Nothing else: a volunteer never sees why.

If someone already ran this: Jordan shows "Already checked in." with 2 points and no check-in button, and the link under the result says "Search again", not "Next member" (it only says "Next member" after a check-in you just made). Search again for Lee as in step 3; Lee's line is the same. Jordan will also appear in scenario 7's list.

  9. 9. Admin and volunteer views compared

    Sign in as Casey Moreno.

    Steps

    1. Staff check-in for Social Night opens. Search for Lee and tap Lee Hart.
    2. Tap "Search again", search for Kai and tap Kai Mercer.
    3. Compare with Lee in scenario 8, where Pat saw only the generic line. Neither search changes anything.

    You should see

    • For Lee Hart: "No current membership (none, or past the grace period). Ask them to renew in TidyHQ."
    • For Kai Mercer: the same line, and a boxed warning that the membership "is marked expired but its end date is in the future (or missing)".

If someone already ran this: The same for everyone, since neither member can check in.
